Community Archives
The Community Archives consist of
collections donated from the community. They are the records that have been
created through the day to day life of certain organizations, businesses or
individuals and their families. They are generally primary documents that are
unique and irreplacable.
Research Files
Research files are an amalgamation of
paper resources, created by the Archives Office over the years, around topics
that are frequently requested. These are not primary sources but may contain
references to them, as well as notes, newspaper articles and secondary resources.
The Ian Matheson City Archives holds records of the city of Palmerston North and
its surrounding regions. Archives Search is a database of the Community Archives
and Research Files that are available for research purposes. While some references
to the City Council archives are included, a full listing of all the records cannot
yet be found online.
